Kerala Crime Files Season 3 is officially happening, and the popular Malayalam crime-investigation franchise is set to return for another chapter on JioHotstar. The renewal was announced as part of JioHotstar’s South Unbound slate, making the series the first Malayalam web series to be renewed for a third season.
However, there is an important update for fans: the third season is announced, but production and the final release date are not yet locked. Director Ahammed Khabeer has confirmed that Season 3 is still in the writing and planning stage.
Kerala Crime Files Season 3: Latest Update
JioHotstar announced Kerala Crime Files Season 3 in December 2025. Ahammed Khabeer will return as director and creator, while Bahul Ramesh, who wrote Season 2, is set to write the new instalment.
In an interview with OTTplay, Khabeer explained that the team had not yet started the full writing and planning process and that the series would be taken up after his next film. This means reports claiming a confirmed streaming date should be treated cautiously until JioHotstar makes an official announcement.
Release Date
Kerala Crime Files Season 3 does not have a confirmed release date yet.
The show was included in JioHotstar’s upcoming slate, but the makers have not announced a specific premiere day. Production timing will depend on the writing, planning and filming schedule.
For now, the safest expectation is that Season 3 is a future JioHotstar release rather than a series that is already scheduled for a particular month.
Cast: Who Is Returning?
The original franchise faces are expected to return. Director Ahammed Khabeer has confirmed that Aju Varghese, Lal and Arjun Radhakrishnan will be back for Season 3.
- Aju Varghese – returning to the Kerala Crime Files universe
- Lal – returning as part of the core franchise cast
- Arjun Radhakrishnan – returning from the second season
Additional actors may be added once the story is written. The director has indicated that casting will be shaped by the requirements of the new case.
Story and Plot
The exact plot of Kerala Crime Files Season 3 has not been revealed yet. Like the earlier seasons, the series is expected to centre on a police investigation and a new crime case rather than simply repeating the previous stories.
Season 1 followed a murder investigation at a lodge, while Season 2 focused on the search for missing Civil Police Officer Ambili Raju. The franchise has therefore established an anthology-style approach in which each season can introduce a different case while retaining important characters and the investigative world.
Because the Season 3 screenplay is still being developed, details about the victim, suspects, location and central mystery remain officially undisclosed.
Director and Writer
Ahammed Khabeer is returning to direct Kerala Crime Files Season 3. He was also the creative force behind the earlier seasons.
Bahul Ramesh is returning as writer after scripting Season 2. His work on Malayalam thrillers has made him one of the key creative names associated with the franchise.
OTT Platform
Kerala Crime Files Season 3 will stream on JioHotstar. The first two seasons established the show as one of the platform’s Malayalam crime franchises, and the third season is part of JioHotstar’s announced slate.
The exact streaming date and episode rollout details have not yet been announced.
How Many Episodes Will Season 3 Have?
The episode count for Season 3 has not been officially confirmed. The first two seasons consisted of six episodes each, but fans should wait for the makers to announce the final format for the third season.
What Happened in the Previous Seasons?
Season 1
The first season introduced the Kerala Crime Files world through a murder investigation at a lodge. Aju Varghese and Lal led the investigation, establishing the grounded police-procedural tone that became a major strength of the series.
Season 2
Kerala Crime Files: The Search for CPO Ambili Raju shifted the focus to a missing civil police officer. Arjun Radhakrishnan took a prominent role, while Aju Varghese and Lal remained connected to the franchise.
The second season premiered on JioHotstar in June 2025 and expanded the series with a more emotionally driven investigation.
Why Season 3 Is Important
Kerala Crime Files has become notable because it was one of the Malayalam originals that helped establish JioHotstar’s crime-thriller offering in the region. A third season also makes the show the first Malayalam web series to reach three seasons.
For viewers, the biggest attraction is the combination of a continuing police-investigation universe and a fresh mystery. The return of Aju Varghese, Lal and Arjun Radhakrishnan also gives the new season continuity while leaving room for new characters.
Trailer and First Look
No official trailer for Kerala Crime Files Season 3 has been released yet. A trailer, teaser or first-look poster is expected only after the project moves further into production.
Fans should be careful with social-media videos labelled as Season 3 trailers, as unofficial edits and fan-made videos can appear before an actual promotional campaign begins.
